April 12-22, 2018

The eleventh edition of Festibérico, our biennial Spanish and Portuguese film festival, opens with El Autor and closes with Handia, two of the big winners of the Goyas 2018 (the Spanish Oscars). São Jorge and A Fábrica de nada, both in the festival, compete with each other for the Portuguese film awards in the categories best film, best director and best actress (the Sophia awards).

Festibérico 2018 boasts a true world première with the thriller La Jaula by third time guest Marcos Cabotá. Director Manuel Mozos will tell us about his film Ramiro in which Ramiro, bookstore owner and poet, sees his quiet life disrupted. Other guests who will visit the festival are directors David Macián of La mano invisible and Susana Nobre of Tempo comum and cowriter and director of photography Pol Rebaque van Júlia ist.

True to tradition, there will be a special screening of Spanish and Portuguese animation shorts on the last Sunday afternoon.

We will also screen the documentary El mar nos mira de lejos, about fishermen living in the dunes around the estuaries of the Guadalquivir with a serving of paella after the screening. During the last weekend Portuguese snacks will be served in Lumen. On closing day there will be a performance by Duophonic between the two Festibérico screenings.

Festibérico is organized in cooperation with the Spanish and Portuguese embassies, Instituto Cervantes, Instituto Camões, Portuguese film institute ICA and other local Portuguese and Spanish organisations.

All films are spoken in Spanish or Portuguese and subtitled in English, unless otherwise indicated. To make this festival possible, the admission to all screenings is € 11.00, with the exception of Sunday afternoon April 17, which will be € 12.50 including a serving of paella.
