Festibérico is here!

Festibérico's eighth edition has the most up-to-date programme yet. Nearly all the films are less then two years old.

The opening film is NO HABRÁ PAZ PARA LOS MALVADOS, which this year won six Goyas, the Spanish film awards, including best picture, best director, and best actor. This year's Spanish programme, with three films, focuses especially on Catalonia. In 2010, Mar Coll won the Goya for best new director, with TRES DIES AMB LA FAMÍLIA. PA NEGRE was the first Catalan language film to win a Goya for best film (in 2011) and was the high point of the retrospective of director Augustí Villaronga during the International Film festival Rotterdam 2011. FINISTERRAE won a Tiger award for best feature début at the same festival.

The Portuguese programme includes MISTÉRIOS DE LISBOA, the last film by director Raul Ruiz, who died last year, as well as SANGUE DO MEU SANGUE, one of the best Portuguese films of recent years.

Festibérico will also screen two documentaries: JOSÉ E PILAR, about author José Saramago, winner of the Nobel prize in literature; and MORENTE, about flamenco singer Enrique Morente. As ever, there will be a special screening of Spanish and Portuguese animated short films.

The festival will be opened on Thursday 19 April by the Spanish and Portuguese ambassadors. On Friday 20 April, director Marcos Cabotá and actor Alberto Lozano will be guests at the screening of AMIGOS…, one of last summer's sleeper hits in Spain. On Saturday 21 April, director Rodrigo Areias will present ESTRADA DE PALHA. Nausicaa Bonnín, the main actress of TRES DIES AMB LA FAMILIA will be present at the screening of the movie on Tuesday April 24. The young director Flávio Pires of ARTUR is our guest on the closing night. Festibérico 2012 is organized in cooperation with the Spanish and Portuguese embassies, Instituto Cervantes, Institut Ramon Llull, Portuguese film institute ICA and other local Spanish and Portuguese organisations.

Unless otherwise indicated, all films will be shown in Spanish or Portuguese, with English subtitles.

To make this special festival possible, tickets for all screenings are priced at €10.50. Five ticket strippenkaarten are available for €42.50. They are valid for one or more persons, and can be exchanged by any five film tickets for Festibérico films.
